I bought my seeds 2097 Kisamore (2365 Wolf x 2447.1 Cutrupi) and 1776 Gunsolus (2639.4 Paton x 2731.5 Stelts) the season begins! 1300 pounds (my goal) looks realistic!

I spent 5.5 months selecting the best seed! I looked back 12 generations in their background and I think the ones I got are the best. A cross of the two would be better but dosen't exist so I will make that cross and use it the next years. I will probably sell the seeds as well.

I am making felted giant pumpkin models this was my first one (and my favourite pumpkin from the looks) the 2907 I will be selling these as well. For all of you looking to buy some I will post the link to my website when I set it up.

5 cubic yards of compost waiting to be used.

I made the compost out of fallen leaves and plant matter. It will go into my patch in spring.

Sorry I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Maurice Dickinson and I am 11 years old (but I still know lots about growing pumpkins) my goal is 1300 pounds this year but I think I can exceed 2000 pounds as I am using some very advanced techniques.

Does anyone have something to deter cucumber beetles? I don't want to lose a plant to bacterial wilt.

For vine borers does wrapping the vines with mesh or something help? Or would something like merit (if that's how you spell it) be better

I wanted something to do in the winter which is long here, so I decided to start my field pumpkins from my 21.6 last year as well as start mine from 2024. I will grow them in pots at the windowsill. I will have pumpkin fruits by June.
Wednesday, February 4 View Page
I am also growing other plants and I have a camera set up taking pictures ove4 a 40 day period then I will have a nice time lapse.

The 1776 Gunsolus pumpkin is not on pumpkin fanatic so I will show you a picture of the family tree of the 2169 Martin which shares the same genetic background. Unfortunately I could not get all of it in the photo I case you are wondering what the pumpkins on the far left and far right are the one on the left is 2144 Barron and the right is 2907 Paton.
Wednesday, February 4 View Page
Here is the family tree of 2097 Kisamore (the other one I bought) the pumpkin one the far left is 1885.5 Werner the far right is 2096.5 Barron.

I was a bit busy this week but I finally made another felted pumpkin:the 2346 Dawson.

Here is the blossom end this is now my favourite one.

My field pumpkin's leaf is really pressing against the window.
Thursday, February 5 View Page
I found this weed by one of my other feild pumpkins it will probably die starved of nutrients (the field pumpkins;is 100 times stronger) but I will leave it it will be a cool addition to my time lapse.

I am going to talk a bit about why I chose the seeds I bought. The 1776 because in it's background it has 12 (or so) 2500+ pumpkins?? As well as ar least 7-10 WRs and it proved itself stress tolerant also nearly all of the pumpkins in it's background are NOT DMG and if the ones that are they usually split at the end of the season. The second pumpkin the 2097 It has fairly good genes but what was amazing was that both parents were gaining 51-56 pounds a day for A MONTH STRAIGHT??And we're both around 2000 pounds at day ~54 but the only downside is that both parents split around then??But it cold have been caused by environmental fluctuations in water/temperature.

Something is wrong with this field pumpkin. Mabe the pot is too small or there is not enough sunlight or it is too cold there by the windowsill it was -26.5 this morning? But I have 5 others in the same conditions that are perfectly fine.
Friday, February 6 View Page
I know most growers love the 2365 wolf seed but I am using lines with not a lot of 2365 because it's offspring although often enormous, tend to split. So I chose a Mendi/Werner line which splits less often and still grows insanely fast.

The genetics set the potential, the weather sets the size. Hopefully thus year's weather is better than last year.

A grower said that garlic barrier works to deter pests anyone else have that experience? The

My leaf is not as weird as before but it is literally horizontal is that normal?
Monday, February 9 View Page
These two FPs are literally identical. Growing the same direction, same pace, sa,e size.
Monday, February 9 View Page
And this one's first true leaf is growing horizontal. AGs don't do that but Mabe it's normal for FPs.

One grower might give me seeds from a pumpkin that went 40 percent heavy it was 1966.5 Warner x self not on pumpkin fanatic though, so if you're interested in it's family tree look for 1966.5 Warner hopefully mine will go heavy as well

As this is my second year growing giants (and my first year where I have a functional setup) last year I tried growing one in 100 ft2 and I los5 the pumpkin anyway at DAP 13 to extreme heat I am looking for a good irrigation setup for 1000 ft2. anyone have recommended products that are not too costly?

My FP is growing nicely I think I see some male flowers forming already.
Thursday, February 19 View Page
There are weird black dots that look like mini insects on all of my field pumpkin leaves but no other plants any idea what it is?
Thursday, February 19 View Page
I love the Werner line as it's pumpkins keep on gaining late season and have nice smooth skin and fast growth hence why I chose the seeds I got.
Friday, February 20 View Page
I made some adjustments to my 2346 and put it on a mini pallet.
Friday, February 20 View Page
I found the insect on my leaf it sticks out looked through a microscope and it turns out it is part of the leaf sticking out like a really fat hair it appears black as it is, when looked on from above thicker so the light doesn't pass through like the rest of the leaf. It is too small to get a good view from the pictures but you can see a little in the one I posted a few days ago.

I am putting cut up banana peels in my field pumpkin pots as a slow-release fertilizer.
Monday, February 23 View Page
My FPs are showing signs of MG deficiency I gave some MG fertilizer. May not appear as well on the photo but leaves are showing signs of interveinial chlorosis.
Monday, February 23 View Page
In case you are interested this 21.6 pound FP is the mother of all my FPs. It had 4'' thick walls everywhere except the blossom end.
Monday, February 23 View Page
I looked op merit against insects but I dislike it's toxicity to bees and aquatic life. Has anyone experience with pyrethroids do they work? The last years I made homade "pesticides" last year that didn't really work.
Monday, February 23 View Page
Last year, I pollinated 4 pumpkins, for those who don't know the female flower usually has 4-5 lobes my first had 6 second 10 third 8 fourth 10 none grew though the first had bad position second lost to 38-40 degree heat third to a mouse fourth aborted horrible but that's pumpkin growing, I've GOT to do better next year.

I looked up neem oil it looked good for my purposes (SVBs and cuke beetles) and I found out it was banned.... got to keep searching.
Tuesday, February 24 View Page
I read peppermint oil mixed with soap deters beetles. Does it work?
Tuesday, February 24 View Page
If I haven't the WR for biggest pumpkin I got the WR for most diary entries before the season begins LOL.

Well, finally my seeds arrived! I ordered the 2097 Kisamore 2024 DMG and 1776 Gunsolus 2025 DMG they arrived so I have 2 2097s and 3 1776s and guess what I got a gift pack of 1504 Gunsolus (2369 Werner x 2670 Thompson) more great ones. Thanks a lot Tyler for those seeds. Now I've got 8 seeds so enough for 3 or four plants or for future years (next year). I should have thaken a pic before putting them in the vacuum container with the silica gels though.

I can't believe it a female flower at this stage?!? Well it's true and there are at least 12 males on this plant with 8 leaves insane. By the time the female flower opens i'l see if the plant is ready as it is growing insanely fast faster than my AGs last year I think. The other 2 plants als9 have a female and what is really weird is all the blooms male and female are in the same place a5 the same stage maby cause their from the same pumpkin?
Friday, March 6 View Page
I think I finally found a deterrent for cuke beetles, a mix of peppermint extract garlic and hot pepper I read it controls a variety of pests because the smell of garlic deters them the hot pepper irritates there mouth parts and the smell of peppermint extract repels them and irritates them. Plus it is environmentally friendly.
Monday, March 9 View Page
Now, this plant rea8s weird two flowers stuck together very weird. Could this be an effect if the cytokinin in my seaweed extract or something else?

My land us not at all good for griw8ng giants because there are trees everywhere and the soil is clay I was looking for another good land to borrow and now 8 have it!, 1440 ft2 of fertile already tilled land with full sun and the nearest trees are 300 ft away so my chances of reaching 1300 are higher! I don't have a photo of it (yet) so I'll show one of the cat instead.

The first flower of the season opened this morning!

I took my soil sample today. I'll send it to the lab soon it's currently drying outside 'cause the soil was super wet from the freshly melted snow. It is 14 Celsius today so I did it and tomorrow it'll be 14 below and won't go above 5 fir weeks.

I hade this last year I don't know what it is but the oldest leaves turn yellow then dry @nd bro2n and it slowl6 progresses alon* the mail vine I was not giving much nitrogen a5 the moment Mabe it was n deficient bu5 8 know 8 gave fish emulsion in my compost tea (I jus5 started doing compost tea then) and it stopped I also doubled the amo7nt of seaweed extract I used
Friday, March 20 View Page
Well my time lapse is over. Now I can manipulate the plant and I was thinking that because my plant hade two male flowers stuck together, and I know that people have grown 3200+ pounds of pumpkin on one plant but there were at least two on the plant so had my stuck flowers been females and I had culled one of them would it grow a bigger pumpkin? I don't know.
