This is my second year attempting giant carrots. One observation that I can make is: with New Red Intermediate seeds the plants can exhibit one of two characteristics. About 1/2 of the plants will drop their foliage at a certain height while the other 1/2 will keep a tight vertical group. I do not know which is preferable. This year I have two of each. The foliage spreaders seem to have the best form for utilization of light. My best from 2 years ago was from a spreader. I will have a better idea next fall which form leads to bigger carrots.
