Anyone using roundup under the leaf canopy to control weeds? anyone notice any negative affects on the plant or pumpkin growth?

Make sure it is the Round Up without Diquat Dibromide as 3rd ingredient. That stuff stays in soil over 1,000 days even though they say it is safe to plant a few days later. If enough builds up it will have long term deleterious effects.

Been using it for over 50 years, beginning as an industrial vegetation control engineer. Safest herbicide I've ever worked with.

I think there must be a better way, but I still contemplate using it. I wouldn't use it on a pumpkin plant however, it would be pure aggravation trying to avoid making the kind of d'oh mistakes I am prone to making.
Thanks for that tip smallmouth I just realized that my mom used one of those "not glyphosate" roundup variations which explains why I have been banging my head against a wall about nutrients and viruses. I know she soaked the soil in that spot with that crap.

Trucktech, they reformulated a few years back after all the lawsuits at least for the common residential spray (removed glyphosate).
The residential grade is completely different chemical makeup now. Look up Diquat Dibromide, it has a soil half life of 1000 days due to how tight it binds to clays in the soil.

Yes, Smallmouth, I was referring to the glyphosate formulation. I sprayed a ton of Diquat as well for quick defoliations. I still have access to the glyphosate-based products.

The formula my mom used has four active ingredients, none of which is glyphosate. So the answer is no, do not use roundup. And use glyphosate with caution for yourself and plant despite the fact it may be the safest, its not exactly milk and honey.
