2 prices of advice: 1st, but a soft tape measure. Google something like "soft fabric tape measure" to get an idea what i mean. The hard construction tapes can damage the fruits skin.
2nd, measure only after 10 or 20 days, and every 5 or 10 after that. Again, the goal is to not scratch the fruit anywhere that could introduce damage
