I have this water pick flosser thing that I have added alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or diluted daconil to the machine (I don't use it personally). Point is, it shoots a stream of liquid and gets things very clean. So I'd suggest gently blasting it with whatever tool you've got (a spray bottle?) to get it cleaned out real good, and then yes, keep it very dry. Probably with a fan of some sulfer powder or some other dessicant or topical treatment. I've also used an electric toothbrush for cleaning out spots like that. (A regular soft toothbruch might work?) I don't know what you should do exaclty all I know is its going to be easier and do less damage to the healthy areas if you use the right cleaning tools.
