I would first get a zip tie and see if it's just superficial...then I'd check w Richmond Dave's stem split surgery entries...can't remember what year it was but he had a great picslpination of the process...good luck...hope guitar not deep

Some people make a slit back away from the pumpkin. I have never done that so hopefully someone who has will chime in!

I think I understand some of the end splits but I have no clue about curing this type of split. I wonder if keeping very steady, mild temps around the stem might help. Did it happen on a cold night? It's so difficult to prevent problems like this when the cause isnt understood.

It has not been cool, low temps upper 60s. We have had over 2 inches of rain in the last 48hrs so I am guessing that could be a factor. That and this thing is really starting to pickup the growth rate I think.
