Honestly I did try to move the sepals out of the way but they are combined with the anther cones and pistols so I'll just leave this stuff alone.

I'd do as Dan says, it's not likely to succeed without intervention. Just start in the easiest spot and work your way around. Even if it's just for practice. I have some that may not be fused but I've been just practicing on them anyhow because it does take a bit of skill and/or a bit of confidence.
