Good observations I think temps may be a factor... it's not necessarily a disease (it could be) it may just be the soil biology actively competing for the same resources because of the high temps. It's a very frustrating thing. I judt had a decent plant collapse because of high temps also added some bad compost tea that wasnt the right kind of biology and it just instantly ruined a good plant. Didn't kill it, but it went from healthy to miserable in just a day or two.

I think I could restore my plant to health if I knew how to, but nutrients are already so complicated and it's just that much more complicated when there's also some sort of bad soil biology

Don't know there are so many unknowns in this world especially since we've only grown these things for like 50 yrs maybe it's just nutrients as these things need so much but hopefully it'll get better. By the way in my county fair pumpkin patch which is very small (100 ft2) my plants had lighter leaves not the flowering th8ng though I gave promix 12-6-6 and the new griwth is spot on

It'd take me all night to research, so I'll just ask:
Have you considered what fertilizer(s) you are using and upped them to at least the labeled levels? I do recall something about *1/7th what was recommended. Not trying to 'kick a dead horse' butt just wondered. Seems that your plants are lOOking good (I hadn't seen any eye-opening yellowing, myself) but everyone's do until they run low on *resources. I noticed a yellowing, older leaf on one of mine today. The OnlY one, out of hundreds on 20+ plants (that were not already yellow upon planting out). So, tomorrow, well, you know, another eg fert-spritz, lol. (So far, 1 gallon of Fert-Water per plant, every 2-3 days); It is past time for both of my 55-Gallon barrels to be put to work with an oVerhEad watering continuation of 24-8-16 Expert Gardener WS Fert from WalMart at one 'sleeve' per 55 gallons H2O; That would be actually a lower-than-recommended dosage, but it is just a start of the 'Barrels Up!' Season and my plants are not yet big enough. What has held me back is my uncertainty as to 'Is the pump still working?' (Stupid on my part); I'll prioritize that for tomorrow. If one has no convenient method of irrigation, it can become a real chore and gets back-burnered. The soil should not voluntarily look as dry as yours, IMHO. Even with 24-8-16, I had to break off two nice females today and I'm eXpEctIng to apply 10-52-10 once a few are 15-20 ft. +! Again, that's 10-52-10. I'll be swimming in Feems! Best of luck---eg
Added: Those test plants could be slapped in several ways to see what can be applied
without fear of over/underdoing anything. (*_*)
