1425 Wolf 2026 (1669 Pollauf x 1458 Wiltermood) Entered this one in a smaller local weighoff. This was grown on a secondary - same plant as the split pumpkin from my Aug 16th entry. Also have another about 450# on the plant.
This was an interesting one - very robust plant, very short nodes to the point I had to remove a couple vines because the nodes were too close together. The 1669 would be a good seed for a 150sqft contest. It suffered a deer attack the night I took the mini greenhouse off - lost the main vine and had to retrain a new one. Overall, good production for the conditions.
I planted this seed specifically to make this cross. I laid out my reasoning last winter here: https://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=19&p=763724
Sometimes, things go according to plan. Sometimes there are hiccups. I don't like deep ribs and it had short stems. Hopefully, the pollinator will smooth things out in the next generation. The 1458 was put into my worst spot in the orange patch. I hated to abuse it that way because it was by far my best plant before it went in the ground. It did make a few nice orange pumpkins. We will see if I have the guts to stick with the plan and grow out the 1425 in a good spot next year.
