There was a ground squirrel in my patch this morning. I had one last year that chomped up about a third of one of my small pumpkins. Hopefully between the fake owl and the laundry basket over my week old 150 square foot pumpkin it will be safe until it gets bigger. The ground squirrels haven't bothered any of my larger pumpkins. It had better stay that way.
