I think maybe just putting a seed in some dirt might be a good place to start. See the seeds page for a couple of choices.

Inducing mutations upon seed to create a polyploid is in no way beneficial. Unless you have mapped the AG genome, located the genes that control size, and confirmed the mutation that will cause them to grow uncontrollably, you are not going to be able to accomplish your goals. Colchicine is a joke, dont even bother. Ken has the right idea.

Try a multiploid.....superploid....or mega-maxiploid. In all cases they wont do squat if the growing technique isnt there. Try a free seed from BigPumpkins .com and follow the advice from this site and you'll do well......G

p-wannabee....remember, everyone here began growing with limited knowledge. We all started at the "entry level" and we all made many, many mistakes. We still make 'em! Even with the help of several "heavy hitters", I didn't do "squat" until my third year. It wasn't until after a complete failure in my second year, that I began to "really" listen to Geneva Emmons. She saved me at least three more years of frustration and failure. I owe my limited success this year to her. She has a heart of gold! She gave me the inspiration to "pay the price of success"! I found that there are no "short cuts" to growing a thousand pounder. All of the "big names" that you hear of have all gone through many disappointments before finally growing a record-breaking pumpkin. Buy Don Langvin's "How-to-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins" book....read it at least five times....check into this site frequently, listen and ask questions. Now you are on your way!
