"Pumpkin Girl"

I'm putting in a new pumpkin growing area in which will be fenced because of to many critters. Now it's been said a 1000 sq/ft give or take is optimal per plant. Now how many sq/ft is suggested to be before the pumpkin that you set on the vine? And what would be the suggested growing length needed for the main vine? I can go a couple different size areas with one being 39 ft wide by 80 ft long or a 36x94 area. Both of these with the intentions of growing 3 plants. Giving that I'll need some moving around space inside. Lets go with the 39x80. Should I go with the plants having the 39ft to grow lengthwise and take 24ft per plant of the 80 for side vines in which will give me a 12ft secondary on each side of the main or go with the 24ft for the main & use the 39ft for the secondary vines making them say 18ft each side. This will be the same idea giving for the 36x94 area also. With the 36ft being for the main vine running length & say 30ft per plant for the secondary vines (15ft each side) or again 30ft running length for the main & 36ft for side vines? Sorry for all the #s here & maybe any confusion! If any questions please ask. Thank you for your input. :)

I think the 36x94 would be ideal. Id try growing the pumpkin close to the middle of a 36long by 30ish wide plant. That plant past the pumpkin is important for late season gains. Remember to leave room for access into all 4 sides of the plant for the whole season.

I totally agree with cojoe. Or try two plants/ or some different sizes of plants in the 40 x80 spot. Some growers end up pulling a plant(s) then giving the space to the better plants as their season progresses. Good luck.

I like to do 25 foot by 30 foot (yes that is smaller than you're talking about, but I find 1000 is really hard to fill with the way the weather works here) I do 25 for the width and 30 for the long (but I start 5 feet into the patch, so only 25 feet of main vine) anyway, as long as the numbers are fairly similar, as it sounds yours are, the length/width is largely personal preference. I would personally do the 36 not 39 but that's just personal preference I think
