The only thing I love as much as pumpkins is all the lightweight categories that can be fun and impressive, too! Anyhow, here's an idea, what about recognition or a ribbon for the top score master gardener item brought to the weigh off?

It could be a pumpkin, but often enough it would go to some other category. It would only take a quick minute to score the entries using the master gardener scoring system. Then give the ribbon to whoever brought the top scoring entry.

Everyone applauds, the grower is happy, and the seed is planted in everyone's mind that there is "a competition for stuff besides pumpkins???" Everyone becomes inspired to grow whatever they think will win this prize, the next year...
