How far do the roots go out from the edge of the patch where you have ended any top growth?

Also, assume that AT LEAST to the edge of the plant plus 5 feet or more is where they may begin to wane, butt if the plant has rooted at a few feet in from the edge, then, there is yet another expanse that may go another X number of feet. There are stories out in the world of plants finding manure piles and the distances are phenomenal. Damned if I can recall any, but, Joel Holland, I'm sure, has shown this in his videos---eric g

I've had roots go out as far as 4 feet from any vine.

Ive had stump roots out 20 ft or so.
