Too much shade, then you take away the shade, and white turns to green.

You can see the natural color they should have been where filtered light hit them around the bottom.

When you say shade Andy, do you mean the pumpkin huts we build over the fruit or a different type of shade?

Thanks Andy and Don. I get that on parts and completely makes sense now since I grow in heavy shade. The areas I get it on face north and are at the bottom. I expose the top quite a bit. I’ve never had like the above. It almost looks like a mildew\mold on a sunken, shaded brick.

Not to argue with Andy but it doesn't seem to me like shade would cause this. I shade my pumpkins completely with a sheet and have never had an hint of green show up. I think it has to be genetic from squash in the lineage.
