Pumpkin was growing so good with the Northeast weather and now the temps are going to drop out tonight into the low 50's from the high 80's just a day ago. This will send a shock into the growth! Has anyone had success with any way of preserving the growth rate? I heard of covering the pumpkin with blankets to keep it warm. Now is it so much the pumpkin or the plant that if it gets cold it will slow down or a combination of both?

Looks like the fall weather pattern starts a week from now. Today is just a taste of it.
I put the blankets on whenever it's going to be below 60 at night. I'm not sure if it helps, but it makes me feel better. There's only so much you can do, things slow down this time of year.

Low 50's is fairly normal out here. If you can warm some water during the day in a black tote or barrel that might add a couple hours at 60+ degrees to your plant's day. Low temps shouldnt reduce the final size but it will take longer to get to that final size. If you get what I mean.

Was in Puerto Morelos Mexico 2 weeks ago and in Colorado as I post this. It’s freezing here in Colorado with no humidity, and the Midwest was worse than Mexico in temps.
I’m with Don, it’s miserable here in the Midwest. You all are lucky. We are over 100 every day next week.

For two years, I have been wondering that as we enter the late summer period, if turning the ground heating cables on (using a soil thermostat) to keep the soil temp at 70F in the vicinity of the stump, may stimulate continued plant growth. I use heat cables 160 ft in length.

Don…Luke you guys are hot? Weird I’m freezing right now! Maybe I should move a few feet away from my air conditioner vent?

Has anyone as Ruger has mention had any success or any feed back on the use of ground heating cables?

You growers with the high heat have a tough time with keeping the plant from heat stress with those temps!

lol Jake, plants are all on their own next week. I can't do the heat like I used to.
Murphy, it is stressful on the plants, but I bet the cold nights in the northeast are too. It was 40's at night where I was in Colorado.

Smallmouth, I was in Wyoming 2 weeks ago and there was snow still on the highest peaks from the past winter. Strange year for weather all around for everyone!

Little Kins is right. I rarely see temps above 55 at night, even in the summer.
