I have a pollination that will be occurring during 94 degree
heat---any tips on how to cool the area I will be
pollinating? Thanks!

I like to put a white fabric below the pumpkin for at least two days b4 it opens.Water the plant well the day of pollination.Ive wrapped the pumpkin with a large white towel as insulation an placed a frozen water bottle at the base of the towel. You want to keep the pumpkin below the 94 but above 60 degrees.

Nobody else needs to post. Joe is dead on and has probably pollinated more pumpkins in heat then years we've been growing!:)

Good luck this year cojoe!

Thanks Joe, so replace the frozen water bottle regularly
for 24 hrs. I was thinking I needed a styrofoam cooler cut
to fit around the flower/vine to make a cool chamber?

Cooler works good also. You need to cut the leaf off at the pumpkin. The goal is to keep the pumpkin from temps above 85 and not dropping lower than than 60. So you need the cooling from noon till 8pm-ish.So you have to play with it as far as how much ice or when you need to place more ice. You can put a thermometer sensor in there.

I love when I see great, long time growers giving good advice!

Could you imagine if the whole site was like this!:)

I do! I do! I do!
Lol - I'm married to OI.
Overhead intelligence?
Sure - Someday I'd like to even have OH PLUS DLs...Crankin'!
Howevs, I'm off topic except for it'd be neat to put a thermometer sensor in there as cojoe said with it in the styro box - $18-something plus tax, doubly-sealed in 2 ZipLocs rubber-banded, receiver/display wherever.
I love mine so far for monitoring my Germ-Fridge from in house.
Good Luck---eric g
