I have been growing a long time and have lost vines to paralel splits in the past. First they fill up with water then next thing you know it is starting to rot up and down the vine. Ejab demonstrates how he pinches the vine shut with a pair of vice grips and the vine grafts itself back together. Thanks for sharing Ejab!

One thing that strikes me in the quest for every larger fruit is wounding injury's and the plants responses to such events. I had a mater in 2013 that got a bit to heavy and kinked the Stem. Naturally I thought it was finished. However I tied it up and left alone for awhile. I was amazed at how it had healed. After several days the fruit was still increasing in size! Well I went out and squeezed a couple more peduncles and they too seam to respond as if stimulated. This response is not unlike what I saw a couple of years in growing a large AGP ribbon vine fruit that had severe peduncle damage.

Joe told me the other day about a horizontal split in the main of his 2118. It wasn't very pretty, but it turns out these things can handle some of the abuse we put them through! Good news for me

It isn' a new thing to wound a plant to help stimulate it to fruit production. Orchardist will often partially girdle a trunk of a tree that just just wants to grow leaves and branches. It helps to wake the tree up and get it's reproductive genes firing.
Here is a description of the practice of wounding from 2000 years ago.
Luke 13:6-9 NIV
"Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ”

I have used the above mentioned practice of digging around a plant to sever the root system to help stimulate a young wisteria to flower.

Scars and scabs on splits can be a best friend to avoid the elements if done right.

I wanted to know and will always remember, now:
Peduncle:
The stalk supporting an inflorescence or solitary flower.
Inflorescence refers to the flowering body of a plant.
Indeterminate ones can go on growing new ones theoretically indefinitely
while determinate ones end obviously at a fixed point.
All using my own words and those of a webpage;
Technical, vegetative words just sound funny and this damage self-repair is
