In a lot of gardens you will have some better ground in them .Is it better to start your plant in them or grow your fruit their for better growth of the secondary's near your pumpkin ?

Start in the best is my vote. Otherwise won't have a pumpkin plant good enough to worry about the secondaries after the fruit.

Really interesting question. I'd say best dirt goes under the root nodes just before the pumpkin. I have seen that help before. But as Bravo says no plant = no pumpkin so the poorer soil still has to be quite good. Ideally you'll have 2 good areas which are 15-20 ft apart, lol?

My choice would be to plant it in the spot with the best soil. That way you know it is getting the best start possible.

doesn't really matter either you will have a good start but a bad finish or a poor start and a fairly poor finish. Best is to mark off the area you want to have your pumpkins grow. Then take soil sample from the entire area, get a soil test and then amend the entire growing area. This way you'll have a good start and a good finish!
