One of my seeds came up a little bit deformed, it only has one cott leaf, since the other was extremely weak and broke off. Will it survive?

Common to lose a cot or have them deformed etc. Keep it under light and hope the first true leaf emerges. That is what counts. Cots just kickstart the new seedling utilizing light.

I have a seed that routinely comes up without one cot - you can see the first true leaf attached to 'the one' if it is going to be there at all - probably an evolutionary advantage of some sort; Keep any that do not have a true leaf 'going' in case of any other evolutionary advantages waiting to appear.
Pretend it's an 1885.5. eg

eg, but what if it is better than an 1885.5...?

Them you've transcended rather than pretended.
How about THAT, HAH?
Good for you, no matter what - I saw that handwritten
seed label in the Mystery Seed packet.
I've seen it some...where...before...hmmm...eg

I don't worry about it, club root, no root, one cot, if it is the seedling you want you can nurse them to health with proper care. Read Chris Kent's 2013 diary he mentions his best melons usually come from his worst plant.

Nope - I'm still stumped.
I even turned the image upside down (Ctrl + Alt + Arrow in the
direction you want) and it still is in the weigh of the torn-like seed label.
Your secret is safe, for now, until I see that labeling method
again, elsewhere. It won't be long, now...eg

All I can say for now is it is from the 1885.5 progeny. I will reveal more when it is weigh off season. But if you can find out what it is, then I will be impressed!

Be careful you don't post a photo of that seedling on the Backyard Giant Pumpkin Growers Facebook page. I have a seedling with some really deformed looking cots and a very twisted stump/vine/stem. I was accused of making every mistake none to seed germination. I guess I shouldn't have said it looked like something grown in Chernobyl. All of that because the leaves cots were deformed. :) They never got the part about the stem twisted around twice on it's access. I think I'm on the Facebook blacklist now listed as a "Plant Abuser". One guy even commented that the deformed cots were due to "multiple grower errors". :) Of course he never listed what those errors were. I have to say that the folks on this site have always been more understanding. PS - some of them got pretty upset because I wouldn't name the seed. Wow! Don't get me wrong, there's some good notifications on what's coming out on new Youtube videos etc. but many, not all, of the comments are baseless. Also, I hope they don't call PETP (PETA for plants) on me.

A few of my 2493s, a 2365, and 2006 came up with scrambled cots and useless 1st leaf. All started in the same batch as ones that were normal. Just never know what's inside those seeds sometimes.

thanks eg ctrlalt^v<> gives me a metronome tone to practice steadiness.

Jonah, those on the duracell side of the flashlight might be interesting.

I am impressed with your set-up. EM radiation, lens for dispersion, spectrum absorption and reflection from colored surfaces. Amazon might be calling you soon for your setup.

It worked how I intended! The grow light came today, so I put that there, and the flashlight was also running out of battery lol. And also... I have some good news about the 1875!

I have my own ideas for plant direction manipulation in a couple weeks butt it just spoke to me that I had a similar circumstance.
