I've never asked this question and have always assumed the go to temperature for heating soil is 80 degrees. I also have never asked what the ideal air temp. under a mini is. Anyone here have suggestions/opinions/ideas.

Thanks in advance.

I've read lots say 85/65 day/night. I'm not an expert but can say the the type of plastic matters. Plastic that blocks the harsh sun the plants can handle the higher temps. Watched a plant thrive in one of those cheap amazon greenhouses up to 110. Not sure that's ideal but variables matter.

I'm using the very opaque plastic, not clear at all. I can regulate the temperature inside the mini with heaters at night and open them up in the day time. I'm mostly interested in what temperature I should keep the soil.

I've read that some pathogens like phytophthora like saturated soil above 60, ideally 70. You'll get faster growth at higher temps but unless you are aiming for an August weigh off and/or and disease downsides under control, then I'd say slow and steady is what wins the race.

Not speaking from personal experience because I've never won a pumpkin weigh off, really just speaking from what I've seen other growers can do, a longer season with cool temps is ok as well, it seems like Steve Daletas showed this was possible with his 2469, I beleive he said nights were dropping into the 40's most of the time it was growing, that the tortoise can beat the hare.

I've set my indoor mini (which is one of those cheap amazon ones btw) to 85F. Indiana weather can be fickle so better to start early to make up for any BS that happens in May.
