I have used coir from blocks for years and never had a problem.

I never would have known any of this and I used a coir block from Burpee a few months ago and although according to this that there could be excessive salt in it, (at scale, probably not in ANY company's 16 oz. block) I am strongly considering using it solely or mixed 50/50 with my usual Jiffy Mix Natural and Organic 12 dry quarts with 1/3 gallon H2O (no more) mixed in with 1/2 cup Bio Grow Endo Plus (Holland's). Seeds seem to germ faster and roots move more quickly in it. The 50/50 intent is for a less-powdery mix that will combine the best of both. It's almost that time! eg
