I have a bunch of 5x5 inch rockwool cubes. has anyone started seeds in them before? I'm thinking I can cut out a 2x2 hole to fill with potting mix and germinate the seed in the potting mix. i'm going to do a few germinating trials and I just wonder what has been tried before.

What seeds? Are you going to PH or condition the cubes? I'm not sure what you're after with the cubes. In my hydro set-ups I only use rapid rooters because of the things I asked above.

I have never used grodan cubes before, but I got a bunch for free. I'm looking to use them for AGs, watermelons, FP and such. I'm still looking at how to condition them. any tips?

I would just soak them in tap water. When there soaked, shake the excess water from it. Do not squeeze the excess water from them. Take a pencil and make the hole deeper. Drop your seed pointed end down and cover up with some extra rockwool. I'd probably start out using the full size cube rather then cut them down. Keep the cube moist and warm. The tap root should show up in a few days.
