A friend has now been bitten by the Pumpkin Bug up in the lovely woods in Belgrade Maine. He's wondering when to start seeds. I never get up that way this time of year, so I have no idea when the average last frost date is up that far. Any other "Maniacs" out there who can help?

I would wait until at least May 1, maybe a bit longer with this deluge of rain coming tomorrow..My plan was to start on the 1st and be in the ground by the 10th, now I may be delayed a little. Not sure what his conditions would be as he is 45 minutes northeast of us. Average last frost up here is May 10, but don't believe all they tell ya. Tell your friend he's more than welcome to give a shout to any of us, we can use a few more growers up in these parts.

Start some early, start some later and be ready for whatever type season Mother Nature throws at us. Plants can be protected from frost, with huts, blankets, lightbulbs and more. And good luck to the Belgrade grower, Al

I'll send Art an email link to this post. Maybe he'd like to join us in the fray! I appreciate all the information I've gotten here over the winter & I know he would too.
The help everyone provides is most generous.

Our family spent over 30 summers up there on your lovely Belgrade Lakes (McGrath/Salmon). This years it's Cathance in Cooper. I envy you folks. If I could figure out how to make a decent living up your way, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Short season or otherwise.
