I have the grow light 4" above soil level. The seedling has grown enough to touch the light fixture. If I raise the light, wouldnt that encourage the leggy-ness Im trying to avoid by having the light so close? However, it cant be good for the seed leaves to touch the light.. can it? Im confused. (nothing new there!) Tammy
I apologize for asking SO many questions, I searched before asking, but didnt find any information beyond the initial set up of putting the grow light close to the seedling.

Tammy - I believe you want to move the lights as the seedlings grow and keep them about 2-3" above them - by having it that close there will be more outward growth vs. legginess since they are close enough to the light source that they are not trying to grow taller to reach it but you also need to keep it far enough away so that the leaves do not burn - If the light source is too high the seedlings will grow more height to get closer to the light source instead of growing more uniformly in both height and breadth. Note : I'm pretty new to this also but have done the same in the past with other plants as well so am pretty sure this is the case but I'm sure someone else will come along soon to confirm or correct.
As far as asking so many questions don't be concerned that is what the forum is here for and for everyone that asks a question there are several others wondering the same thing but don't ask - so your questions help others learn as well !!
