Subject: putting the whole coffee can in the ground???

I wonder if one could take the lid off of a coffee can that had a seedling in it and just bury the whole can ? the roots would shoot out the bottom and it looks like it may keep cut worms away..ur thoughts??

I wouldn't. There would likely be some root constriction. The can is what? 6 inches tall? That's probably well within the range of the higher roots. Plus some plants produce crazy huge fire hydrant looking basal crowns (stumps - sic).

i wouldn't leave it on, small soda bottles cut into collars work well to keep the cut worms away, just make sure you cut a slit in them so you can remove them easy
