What does everyone coat there seeds with before planting
for fungi and other preventions ?

Captan, just like Shake N' Bake!
i would only use it though for suspect seeds, ones that
look like they've been to h... and back.
ones that have evidence of mold or fungus on them from the drying process after they were taken out of the pumpkin.
never use it in the ENTIRE seed-starting mix!!!!
only dip the (wetted) seed in it and place the seed into the hole in the mix, in the peat pot. cover. wait. EG

would H2O2 do the same job or is it just not strong enough to kill the fungus?

good question, and since i have had some seed-starting mix in the basement for over a month in a bucket with a bathroom rug over it to keep it from drying out, it is without a doubt as to why they call it "sterile" seed-starting mix! the Scotts stuff in my '04 diary, which i always use to sprout things with. no funny smell, still nice and moist, and no growths of any kind. i would THINK that the H2O2 would take care of any fungus-to-be, as long as the soaking time was sufficiently long enough, like 10-12 hours....been there done that. used to sleep a lot. eric

Peroxide kills germs, bacteria, fungi etc on contact with no residual. Captan, Subdue, etc have up to 10 days residual.

Soak in Peroxide, pat dry on a new sterile gauze pad, shake & bake & grow.

hi tremor, frank from coventry r.i. what is the mixture for the peroxide , how much , and how long to soak, then when do you plant. does it matter 3% or not thanks
