I have never had evident damage to a pumpkin from a slug nor a snail, although on SMALL plants, they can make/add to holes in leaves and yet, they are just cleaning up the debris of whatever has died already, even along the edges of leaf damage. I peacefully coexist with them and especially avoid stepping on them and/or having to extract them. I don't bother spiders, either and have even toyed with them and their built-in, natural defense actions, lol. Oh, and I have a FP that is growing excellently and for that seedling, the slugs WERE becoming overwhelming, so, I put down WeedBlock or similar, about 8 pounds +/- of Play Sand onto that 3' x 4' WB with a rusted, old disc brake rotor encompassing it and I never once had a snail nor slug there again. Directly out in the open, it still is; Can't wait to grow about 10 of that seed next year. Doesn't help your pumpkin, but now, you know, lol. eg
