Do the bare minimum. My plants were pruned. (There is one totally unpruned plant in the next picture and but it didnt produce anything significant.) And they werent allowed to wilt or dry out. I do think thats essential. But to some extent they do like to be left alone...
If bushel gourds are the cats of the gardening world, pumpkins are the dogs... then maybe tomatoes are somewhere in between.
