All the years growing field pumpkins here going back many many years they always start off green and then eventually turn into the classic Hallowe'en orange. This particular FP seed we are growing from a grower's 80 lb. plus one is throwing yellow immature yet healthy fruit! There is only one variety I ever recall starting off yellow was "Neon". An early variety grows about 10 -15 lbs. Anyways the wonderful world of genetics.

I guess it should be possible because there are, for example, yellow crookneck squash that are C. pepo. Will it turn orange or remain yellow? You might have to indulge us with a picture later on!

There are several yellow ornamental pumpkins on the market now days. They are very good sellers to the general public. Mellow yellow is one of the bigger varieties.

Thanks we aware of the newer yellow "ornamental type" pumpkins, even growing Mellow Yellow back in our commercial field. But this pumpkin I am referring to is from a 81.6 Rodebaugh'23 (138.5 Paul) which were the classic big types we see at GPC contests. Anyway be interesting to see what it produces when mature and post pics. There's 3 on the plant now.

I believe 'Field Trip' starts yellow and goes to orange. But those are quite small field pumpkins.

Hopefully you selfed at least one.
I believe it's a very recessive trait in the line that goes back to the MacKinnon or 81 Wolf seeds. About 10 years ago, Joe House had one of his field pumpkin seeds throw white / cream yellow ones, so I'm guessing they are related.

Hey Andy thanks good idea. Not yet these were open, FP plants still small young and was weeding not expecting any fruit yet until these appeared already? They are long like resembling a zucchini but fatter, sure got me puzzled. I definitely remember the MacKinnon we weighed it. Good to know about Joe. On another note I bought some bins of big white "Polar Bears" from a local farm here, there were 2 big beautiful "Pink" ones 50 lbs. or so? Trying a couple of them this year. Those wondering bees at times.

Was wondering why the FP's were yellow on one plant at my Nephews. Both thought they were just done. I'll let him know soon. Nice Info! They were also from House Seeds. Also McKinnon and 81 wolf in some seeds.
