Hello. I've never grown field pumpkins before and am in a difficult Alaskan climate with a last frost date of May 21st. I'll be transferring plants to a greenhouse. The weigh off is around September 1st. When should I start my plants? Thank you!

I start mine mid to late June in Pennsylvania. Once set the fruit mature in 30-35 days.

I'd start them in the first week of May if I was you.

So Jay, are you just starting seeds now?

I actually started early and direct seeded into the patch. Plants are up and just starting to vine out.

I found direct seeding also to be best. Had some great early plants that did not like being transplanted, but direct are at 4th leaf.
