For a late September early October WO in New England, when should field pumpkin seeds be started?
Thanks

I just finished putting the last of our field pumpkin plants in the ground half an hour ago. Our weigh-offs are last Saturday of September, first 2 Saturdays of October. Our valley is a little cooler than the rest of the area, so I start a little earlier than some growers. I suggest getting them started today.

When you say started them today. Do you mean start them indoors like you do with the giants or do you mean direct plant them in the ground?
Thank you, Mark G.

Surely it is about when you Pollinate, rather than when you start the plant?
