I posted this under general discussion, but I'll repost here:

I think we probably need some more clear rules than just "crosses are disqualified" (I think something like we have for "squash" vs AG would be more fair and fun than widespread disqualifications.). On a basic level I'd say long and green is a "marrow" (how long and how green is debatable), anything else is a "field pumpkin"?

I, for one, just want to see huge C. pepo.

The issue is a Field Pumpkin and Marrow are so closely related if they were crossed it would be difficult to prove this.

look at some of the long FP's out there, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have marrow in there background somewhere. The marrow crosses I've grown eventually turn orange, but I can get the marrow crosses bigger than satandard FP's. I think Dutch Brad was talking competitions other than GPC would disqualify them, don't want to speak for him, maybe he'll chime in. He knows more about marrows than me, he does have the world record.
