Back by popular demand, the Team Challenge!!… that’s right..we’re gonna do it again!!..I’ve been in contact this winter with Former Cup holder , Jack larue , who has already started for the season , and has plants ready to go in the ground…(cheatin) … He has put together one heck of a team to compete in this years contest. I’m sure most of you know the rules…make your own team of three growers for the Challenge Open, or specify to enter our Draft division where you will be teamed up with two other growers trying to grow a fruit bigger than they ever have before …..let’s go…sign up!!!..This is one of the best giant tomato contests on the internet…we’ve had multiple world record holders, many former world champions, and countless state and Country title holders…also many newer growers to the hobby who have grown fruits they never thought possible…There’ll be trophies and plaques, seeds galore, THE SMASH AWARD, and of course the TOP DAWG TROPhy !!!…..to date , the CUP has traveled more than 10,000 miles…how far will it travel after this season unfolds? That depends on YOU!!..gotta sign up to be eligible for the CUP!…saswampo DaN has graciously offered his time to score keep the stats for us again…(thank you…you did Zeke proud last season )…. any questions?…post them below…and please, help me spread the word…Gonna pull the draft names middle of may. What a fun competition and I am going to sign up again for the draft competition. Porkchop has been funding this competition for the past few years and I propose that we have a voluntary entry fee of $5 or more dollars to help with the prize monies and the trophies.

I don't have a question, but I do have a request to those planning to sign up for the Draft.

If you sign up to be on a Draft team, as a courtesy to your teammates, please strive to bring two tomatoes to the scale. Your team is counting on you to contribute. Last season 11 of 30 growers didn't submit even a single tomato. We understand that life, bad luck, mother nature, mistakes, BER, disease, varmints, etc. happen... but please commit to make an reasonable attempt.

For Open side teams... it's on you to motivate the teammates you've chosen.

Phil Wellington here. I have never grown a tomato larger than 6.23 pounds and this year was really hard to get Tomato seeds. Only one guy sent me some. Here in Missouri we are having 70 degree weather everyday and I have planted what few seeds I have and am anxious to get more. But I will compete with all of you.

ALOHA PORKCHOP!
I'm back from my 2-1/2 month mainland trip and excited to get a new growing season started over here...I wanted to know how long your sign ups will be so I can get word out to my families...I got quite a few new families/schools that signed up to participate in our GFV contest...I have an orientation with many of them on Thursday night and thought I could add about this contest to my presentation. But I know they will ask "when is the last day to sign up?!"...LOL...also, is there an official start date to starting plants? I was going to start germinating seeds this week, with the hopes that I can start distributing plants about the end of May...but that's all pending the cooperation with the weather...LOL...our island has been unseasonably wet the past few months and I came home to rain...although today the sun did come out...hoping for weeks of sunshine once the seeds germinate, so I can add started plants to greenhouse...otherwise I'll havta keep them indoors and under grow lights...anyway...let me know...mahalo!! :)

I will have a draft ! 5.53 for me. I agree with John that we should have a voluntary entry fee to help with the funding. Porkchop is crazy as a loon and may be experiencing some Sleepy Joe moments but he shouldnt be trying to fund this thing by himself. Maybe we can set up an exclusive Tomato seed auction next year with some of our other exotic seeds that we grow to fund this thing.
