Gone With The Win

I seem to get only 30 days dap here in the south. Others in the northern climate say Michigan gets 37 to 42 days depending on heat.I know a guy on the east coast that lives in a valley I think that gets 60 DAYS!DAP!PORKCHOP!! Maybe I can top my plants after my select ones rippen wich will be soon.

Depends on the temps really.
Or climate I guess you could say.
I had one flash in 28 days last year.
No frost until November here so sets in September can go 40+

Centennial Colorado

In Colorado I typically get 60+ days of growth. Could have something to do with altitude also. I am at 5700 feet above sea level and even in the mid summer I already have a 55 day old tomato. Hasn't turned red yet. Could also be the fact that I grow in pots.

North Of The Border

Pick eating tomatoes at anywhere from 20-60 days. Got one large one yesterday at 50ish days. Nowhere near competition size, but I have a large one, still completely green, and probably 50 days. I am up fairly north, right on the saint Lawrence river, near New York State.

The time between pollination and ripening is dependent on the tomato variety and the air temperatures during the growing season, the Growing Degree Days. Warm season, fewer days and early tomatoes. Cold season, more days and maybe even bigger tomatoes. Tomato Tim has only 30 days to grow a big tomato as it is way too hot where he grows. Even a shade cloth won't help that much if the air temperature is too high.Garden Rebel has cool weather and so more days to grow that big tomato.

It should be noted that although Sutherland grows near one of the hottest parts of Washington... we had a very cool spring. Low temps may help, temps above 80 probably do not help. That being said, maybe a person could mist the air in the vicinity of the plant without damaging the tomato? Trying to keep things from getting too hot? Where is this next big tomato located??? Feels hot here... but actually 84 is the warmest my thermometer has hit in July so far.

86 today, 88 Sunday & 90 Monday. Lots of storms next week. Weather is all over the place from 40's to high 90's this summer.
