Tomato challenge
Starting in 2020 the 10 pound Challenge will be expanding to include prizes for the top 3 tomato’s grown. This will run in conjunction with the 10 pound challenge, so you can only win 1 prize.
We have also changed the fact that the 10 pound challenge can be claimed at your own clubs spring meeting. Although the GPC conference is the preferred venue, We will allow for this to be local as this gives the winner the ability to bring his or her family members without spending a fortune.
We will do our utmost best to also attend the clubs spring meeting for the presentation.
Prize break down for top 3 will be as follows and will be annual. Only request is to make seeds and information available to other growers. This was made possible by securing sponsors and in due course we will announce them. We have a few technical things to work out first
1st place $500.00
2nd place $250.00
3rd place $125.00
Unfortunately we are unable to compensate the top growers that missed out over the last couple years, but sincerely hope they can repeat.

I would like to express my appreciation to Eddy for singlehandedly setting this up.
It has the potential to jumpstart competitive Giant Tomato growing into an orbit comparable to that of Giant Pumpkins nationally.
That needs to trickle out into the local grassroots consciousness.
There are several Tomato festivals around the country.
I am not aware whether any of them have a Giant Tomato competition.
If any members here live near one of these festivals, we should promote the idea of starting a Giant Tomato contest.

Years back I tried to start a giant tomato contest near here at an amusement park. It was held as part of an Italian Festival where many pounds of pasta were eaten all with DelGrosso Spaghetti sauce. The park was named Delgrosso Park. There were rides and vendors as part of the festival. We held the contest for two years. I was the only entry. It was advertised in our local paper. It literally died "on the vine." I think we could have done a better job. I wanted to do a Tomato Festival at the park but they thought their Italian Festival was good enough. I still believe a festival with a tomato theme would have done well in our locale but the idea was not embraced by the park or DelGrosso's Spaghetti Sauce.

Freeking aWESoMe!!!!!!...still can’t believe we are talking about a 10 pound tomato...and it not being crazy talk..bit of bummer that ya don’t have to give the big speech at the dance ....that added a whole new level of fear...(rebel was sweatin it hardcore...me too...made it fun in a real panicky kind of way)....either way we couldn’t be more thankful to eddy, and many many others that do so much to make an already exciting hobby even more fun..you guys are AWESOME!!!...the word is out with these Domingos and I wasn’t the only one who saw names like Cindy Tobeck and Scott Holub post some big numbers this year...Cindy in particular will be out for blood next year..and we all know how ruthless she is...did ya know Ron Wallce grew a 6 pounder and 5lber on the same plant this year?...he made a sandwich with it...this is the real deal folks..2020 will be the tomato Super Bowl, World Series,(and trumps first debate) all rolled into one. YEA BABY!!!!!!!!!...
