We all grow gourds straight down, and in some cases, end up digging a hole for the fruit, Has anyone fastened a long board at a slight angle, or is this not a good idea, My problem is, I have my gourd in raised beds with heat cabnles and I don't want to accidently cut one. Eddy I don't see why that wouldn't work. Good idea

Rick Sanders, a Canadian living in Germany, did it this year with success.

               Eddy:
Good question, I wondered the same thing in 2005. Glad to hear it will work. I was afraid the resistance from the board would impede growth.
  Thanks: Bob A.

I've been growing long gourds for 3 years .Last year I had one growing 5 feet off the ground . It was growing fast so I dwanted to see what it would do.I nailed 3 - 1 x 6 pine bourds together on an angle it went 98 inches .It does work. george

My first year I grew one on a slant board. This year I am doing the same. It works OK if you have one set too close to the ground. I just learned that you can't use black electrical tape to hold the gourd on the board: it will burn it in the sun.

We have been doing that here on some gourds for a few years now. Two boards attached together will make a nice "V" trough so the gourd will not fall off. The board can then be used to transport the gourd later. Try wrapping the board with a plastic sheet to make it slippery and it will grow down just fine.
