I have a long gourd that is 60 inches long that is putting alot of weight on the vine stem area. What is something i can do to relieve this weight off the vine where the stem meets? I have this growing beside my deck and it run up a 4x4 that I use to put my flag on,luckly for me it set the gourd at the Highest point. Should i try to relieve the weight or do you think I should just leave it alone like i have been doing all season. This gourd is holding on its own from no help from me. Picture should be in my diary today.
  thanks for any help, Brooks

We use an old pantyhouse and make supports for it. it will drop eventually if you do not support it. The day before weigh off is when it occurs for us.

We just make a couple of loops and secure it to the trellis around the stem area.
