I know little about competitive watermelon growing, but I have seen disclaimers about largest "traditional" watermelon which suggest that there is categories. If one grew a state record watermelon, would it be recognized regardless of the type of watermelon see?

Yes. Grafting is where big weights are coming from lately. Better disease resistance too.

Thank you. I am going to throw out some watermelon seeds next year by my pumpkin patch. Since I get water run-off, I might as well grow something else for the fair.
