Since the forum is a little slow, I'll start a new post and ask everyone how many plants and what seeds did they use for this year and what are the condition in the area now?

Got a 290 Kent and 302 Kent going in this weekend. Gave a friend a 229 Holloway. Couple of back ups from a selfed 255 Mitchell from last year. 180 UOW. Grew up not far from you Beverette. Rocky Mount born and raised. Moved to Virginia with my bride 12 years ago. Miss those old stomping grounds.

318 Kent
236 Terry (2)
Double-planted the 236 Terry, and had two more 236 Terry as backups. Started with two 318 Kent NOT double-planted, and one of them mysteriously died after being in the ground for four days. Thus, a 236 Terry backup will be going in its place today.

ESheel31- yeah I'm not far from there at all.
I planted 318.5 Kent 209 Schnicher 2x 132.5 Hampp And have a 146.5 Bhaskaran and a 151.7 Terry for backup.
We've had alot of rain here this week and the forecast isn't looking good for next week either.
Had some germination issues early on and it kind of set me back a little later than I had wanted to start but I think I'll still be good shape if I were to get anything big enough to take to the NC State fair.
This is my second year growing, did it back in 2010 and got about a 100 pounder and decide id get back into it again this year and hopefully from now on.

I think I am the "little shaver" here, but since I am growing in a large planter box this year, I decided to try a space saver seed. The weather is still a bit cool and wet, but my baby watermelon is finally growing! More pics to come....

brotherdave, You are planting some big time old school seeds. That is the first time I have seen a Carson seed in a long time. Or some one that still has a 157 Bright seed left. I think I have one left.
Good luck with all of them!!!

Im growing 2 melons. Spot one has my 231.6 2016 UOW in it. My 231.6 is a melon I had cut to take to Hamilton and weighed here at the house. Then my hubby broke his leg so we weren't able to go. The cross is the 272.5 E Neptune X 296.5 Barber. The best of the Ohio melons. If i get a melon going on it, I'm calling it Billie Sue. Spot 2 is the 251 Kent and 199.5 Mitchell. They are battling each other to win that spot. Both spots are double planted and the most aggressive plants will be grown.

After failing on properly germinating a bunch of seed, including a 350 Kent. I changed plans and am growing my own 133 Ciesielski which I believe was a 238 Holloway x open. Plus I am growing three black diamond types all from my 95 Ciesielski Black Diamond back in 2013. Everything here is on grafts this year. Everything. I have over 100 grafts of eating varieties of cantaloupe and watermelon. All are on the shintosa rootstock. They still have not gone in the garden yet but they should be ready this coming week. All grafted plants were either done with the whole insertion method or the single cotyledon. Hopefully this will eliminate the fusarium problem I had last year and the year before.

I would recommend bushel gourd root stock or C. ficifolia rootstock. If you need seed just send me a bubble and I will get some to you. This video is very helpful. However, most growers do not remove the roots from the rootstock as he does in the video. I actually did do it that way as I found it easier to do large quantities at a time. I had mine underneath intermittent mist so I knew they would not have any trouble growing their roots back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0GwgMb0M3Q
