What's better, the "cloth" fabric type or polypropylene "silt fence" type?

I use the one year weed fabric (cloth) . Water soaks through and its cheap. I just throw it away when Im done.

I used the heavy silt fence type but water did pool up in some spots had to cut some slits for it to drain but I did get good rooting threw it I'm going to try the cloth type next season

Soil can't "breathe" and water cannot penetrate plastic weed barriers. I have used both types and the breathable fabric barriers are the only kind I will use in the future.

Agree with Joel and Dennis. Cheap stuff also lets node roots thru but will keep weeds down if used with a well draining mulch

I like the cloth material over the plastic and look for the weight of the fabric to be listed. 3 oz. or less is what I prefer. I usually buy mine at Amazon in 300' rolls.
