Is there any advantage to using a dark colored fabric to cover a watermelon vs. a light color? Daytime temps in my area are 75-85 degrees; nighttime temps drop into the 50's. Also, would a blanket over the watermelon at night be beneficial? Thanks!

A dark cover in the daytime would of course get the melon to a little warmer temperature in the sunlight but I doubt if this would translate into many additional pounds as melons of much age do about all their growing at night.

a blanket would help at night.

Thank to both of you! I have lots of pumpkin blankets to use (I'll have to search for the small ones).

Dark color is black plastic color? Normally the weed control fabric is black in order to prevent the sunlight and block the weed growing.

Dark colors may get the fruit to hot in the daytime.I know Chris uses a blanket at night.I also heard he reads them a bed time story also.Like Jack & the beanstalk type stuff.
