I will be growing Watermelon for weight starting this year so I am reaching out for someone to give me the poop on what is the best read for somebody to dive into to learn all there is on soil likability for Carolina Cross. I've grown melons in the past for Market and have done very well but never for weight and never C C's. I am going back looking at posts but yet have seen anything on Books or any literature on technique of the sport. I promise to give all a run for the money, lol. The only book I have found on the subject is, 'The winners guide to growing giant melons' Which Lloyd Bright wrote and he sells it on his website. (giantwatermelons.com) It is a great book not only for the information but gives us a history of the sport. It has many old pictures and is very fun to read. Besides the book the best info to be had is here on bp.com. DO some site searches etc,. Join a club, last season the GWG sent out Season summaries from the top growers. Lastly Joseph I watched your diary this past summer and have also communicated with you on horticultural topics. You have what it takes to make a fine grower!

Thanks John, I'll check out Brights book and brotherdave I'll get that email out to you!! I know melons like sandy soils so for the first year tryin I'd just like to get a feel for how you experienced growers go about thing in saying that I do know my way around soil manipulation and configuration, lol. I just want to get it right with some sort of an edge on the theory of Applied Watermelon Vine growth and fruit viability (How far out on the vine to grow, all that. Thanks, Joseph

hi i am new to the sport of growing
carolina cross watermelons and
would appreciate any help and pointers
and advice to have sucess growing
carolina cross watermelons
i have tried starting the soil with little
bit of cow manure,horse manure and goat manure
and some vegetable compost what vegestables
are good for compost and which vegetables or fruit
are not good compost
