I was just wondering once the fruit sets on a main do some of u all let the main keep growing, or deadheaded. My watermelon is about 40 pounds on the main. The main vine is 7 feet past the watermelon.,,,,Thanks

I have tried that procedure and was not unhappy with the results. I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

mine split after i did all the main vines, the melon was 6ft from the crown,4days later...dont no if it was the 13inches of rain or cutting the ends of the main vines...but it split.

I do wish that deadheading was definitive at this point. I do not on purpose deadhead my melon vines, but I have done it on accident once.

I have found that the melon vine will slow to a crawl as the fruit sucks more & more energy from the vine. Most don't go more then a 5-6 feet past the fruit. No deadheading was necessary. I would not do it on purpose.
