i pollinated all 3 plants on the 4th of july, 2 out of the three took. they both are on a large finger vine, should i cull all the smaller finger vines from the vine that the melons are on or just let them all grow? I also found that some vines are starting to set some roots in the soil. Should i leave them be or pull them from the soil, i have already pulled a few but i havent found alot of vines that have set roots yet, should i be cautios of how many i let set roots

You want all the roots you can possibly grow. The top is what you want to limit. 250' sq may possibly be plenty of top.

The roots can run way further than the leaves so plan to water accordingly.
