I experimented with drip, both ways last year. I like under fabric best. Mice ate holes in it on top. Hint: start mouse control NOW!!!

Drip lines under fabric every 2 feet well beyond the edge of the plant. Some set them even closer together if their soil is really sandy. Give plenty of room between lines and stump so it don't get wet and rot.

I like mine on top,it would be hard to find a leak if it was under.

Ok, so since vines are not rooting down, we are watering a massive root system that expands from the main stump area, and not to concerned about continuous watering of foliage? May be some foliar feeding. I noticed a few vines rooting last year but not many. I have noticed since i covered my pumpkin patch with 6 oz road fabric, that i will peel back as plants grow, that alot will run off and not go through, keeping soil dryer. Thats why i want to run whatever underneath. Thanks for the input guys.

Yes thats most likely the best way to go,under the fabric,I,m the oddball. But I dont use the fabric everywhere, only on the interior border of my screen house,s.With drip tape if you step on it a sharp rock could tear the tape.So under, I would try not to step on it if possible. If you get a small leak you may not know for a while.I had a couple leaks last year.Maybe thats not as common of a problem as I think it is.
