For a weigh off during the first week of September and for a early October weigh off. I would assume early July for the September weigh off, and mid/late July for the October one? The watermelon I had last year were done growing after a month and a half, should they grow longer than that? I had too many plants crowded together last year.

I pollinated late June & early July for late september & early October weigh-offs the 228 & 219 were picked early they were still growing a 1 lb + each day. They will easily grow 80 days & can grow 100 days.Im pollinating asap when plant is larger then 50 feet of vine (lineal feet).

To do well you have to keep both the plant and melon healthy for a long time. That means keeping the melon shaded and off the soil and keeping your ground weed free, and your plants insect free and your leaves free of fungus and your roots well watered and fed. You need a plant that is still growing and healthy when it is time to pick your melon.

Too many plans is probably why they stopped growing so early for me last year. I had 8 in 500 sq ft that is only around 60 sq ft per plant. The melons would grow really quickly at first then slow way down. This year I will have 2 in 500 sq ft and make sure the plants are big before pollination.
