Missouri Wine Country

When to plant? Train like AG's? Harvest Date? We are new to watermelons in Missouri! Thanks for imput.

My plants go in the ground May 1st or so, at the 3-4 leaf stage. Seeds were started late last week.

I don't train plants, I just let'm go wild, but try and keep them pruned to a average size plant, or they will run for miles!

Melons will grow 90-100 days if you keep the plant and awl healthy, most of mine last year were in the 80-90 day range. So if you set fruit July 1st, melons could go as long as end of Sept. with healthy plants.

Some do prune & grow like kins,but be careful burying vines they can rot in a hot climate.I grow wild like Todd

PS...Todd, you mentioned "average size plant". What size would that be?

Todd has big plants,like 20X30.watch his videos,he cut them pack so they wouldnt take over the neighborhood.

Plants last year were around 22x 25, and yes, alittle on the big side. This year, I think they may be alittle smaller, the beds I have prepared are only 33x 17, so they may be alittler smaller this year.
