It sure has been quiet on here the past few days. I know I am spending most of my spare time trying to get mt soil ready for growing a freak melon. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. It will be in the mid to upper 70's for the next several days here. Right now it seems like the weather is about a month ahead of time.I am afraid we will have more bad storms though.

I think a combo of bodies migrating to Niagara... AND the weather, have done it.

J there were several melons grown TN and weighed at fairs in early Sept that went 200+. Most were started mid to late April. Normally code is, example: 123 Jones 10

123 = melon weight
Jones = Last name of grower
10 = year grown (2010)

CC on a seedpack usually means Carolina Cross, and that strain Loves going heavy! 255 Mitchell is a great seed!

you stand a good chance of killing it if you take off.

Damn it, just put it into the ground, if you see that many roots, please do not try to peel the pot apart. GREAT SEED - GREAT LUCK !!!!!

I would tear the pot very gently to weaken it in non rooted areas.So I would plant it kinda half & half out of the pot.You may not want that organic matter that close to the stump in a hot climate may lead to disease later.The roots will grow on if a few are torn hit it with some Great White as you plant it also.Sorry was on the road all day.

The purpose of a peat pot is a plantable pot. The roots grow right on through and there is no disruption to the plant. NEVER remove a peat pot!

I have dug more intact peat pots out of the ground after a season end or the beginning of the next season... I will not use a peat pot. They don't dissolve and I feel they can throttle my plant's root system.

Take a nursery pot, cut down the sides to the drain holes at the bottom in two places, duct tape pot shut again, and line with a layer of newspaper. This will give you root protection during transplant AND you will be able to get the plant out easily (just remove the ducttape), I have never dug a newspaper out at the end of the season!
