you can't beat mother nature. I keep very accurate recordsof the weather in my area of michigan. On April 16th every year I put my plants out in my garden in a 7 by 8ft greenhouse. The doors on each end have solarvent openers. The houses also have electric heaters. In 2011 from April 16th to the 30th I Had 12 cloudy days and 3 sunny days.Average hi was 53 degrees. Average low was 41 degrees. Had 236lb melon. In 2008 from April 16th to the 30th I had 15 sunny days no cloudy days Average hi was 69 degrees average low was 46 degrees. had a 267 and a 285 melon. Come on old lady nature help me out again this year.

Are you guys worried about bugs, being that we did not (as yet) get that deep freeze ? I know Mother Nature has her way - BUT - I hope she sees to give us a break or at least help us out !

I dont think the bugs will be bad with no snow to insulate the ground there getting hit just as hard. It will be 15 degrees this weekend.

I'm expecting bugs up the yingyang....
Trust me, I actually do not plan to get rain when I set up for my growing season, it's been so hot and dry for so long. Only thing that'd get me then, is lots of rain.

There is plenty of frost in the ground here. No snow & cold night temps have kept the gound pretty stiff. The lakes just north of us have 16-18" of ice, but fishing sucks. LOL. The lack of snow will allow us to get into the dirt a little sooner. Good luck folks,

I'm a little worried about the mild winter too. We haven't had a bucket of water freeze many times. But like Marvin said we'll just deal with it. I'll just have to be very preventative. On a good note my cows have had a good winter.
